Long-term stress can disrupt physical and emotional well-being or even lead to burnout; however effective stress management strategies can help to reduce work-related stress and ensure smooth work. The aim of the research was to assess stress management among nurses working in pediatric wards. Research methods. Quantitative research was conducted using an anonymous survey. The research took place in the selected healthcare facilities in the period from February to March 2024. A total of 203 nurses working in pediatric wards participated in the survey. The questionnaire consisted of demographic questions, the Perceived Stress Scale, and the Stress Test. The data was processed following statistical analysis principles using the RStudio software package. Results. The absolute majority, i.e., 99 percent of the respondents were women. 35 percent of the respondents belonged to the 50-59 age group. It was found out that 72.9 percent of nurses working in pediatric wards experience stress. The level of subjectively perceived stress is moderate. Most nurses indicated a decrease in time spent for family relationship (53.2 percent), they experienced increased fatigue (78.3 percent), weakened immunity (59.1 percent), weight gain or loss (65.5 percent). Most of the nurses stated that conflicts with colleagues (40.5 percent) or patients’ families (46 percent), heavy workload (33.8 percent), low salary (33.8 percent) causes stress at work. Most nurses reduce stress by exercising (53.4 percent), going on vacation (45.8 percent), taking 5-minute breaks during the work (37.3 percent), chatting with colleagues (36,4 percent). Conclusions. 72.9 percent of nurses working in pediatric wards experience work-related stress. Moderate stress levels dominate among the nurses. Physiological and behavioural stress symptoms were most prominent. Nurses are mostly stressed by problems related to colleagues, patients or their families, and inadequate working conditions. To cope with stress, nurses in pediatric wards employ various stress management strategies, including hobbies, physical activity, various relaxation techniques, maintaining healthy lifestyle habits, and seeking social support. Recommendations: 1. For nurses: practicing effective communication, self-care practices, exercising, social support. 2. For health care administrators: stress management training, establishment of a gym.","abstract_html":"Working in a complex environment, nurses face various challenges that cause stress: therefore, they need to seek for effective stress management strategies.
