The work consists of three main parts - theoretical, methodological, and empirical. Literature analysis reviewed the evolution of trade secrets law and the concept of trade secrets, as well as determined the evidence needed to prove trade secrets infringement and recommended protection approaches. The empirical research was focused on analysing answers to the questionaire distributed to employees and employers in Lithuania. The questionaire provided to the respondents was focused on trade secrets protection practices applied in the companies they represent. The main goal of this study was to analyze the extent of trade secrets protection practices implemented by organisations and to identify the main weaknesses in protection that increase companies' vulnerability to illegal acquisition, use and disclosure of trade secrets. The researched revealed that most companies rely on trade sectrets to protect their know-how, but the companies that have dealt with trade secrets misappropriation in the past, comprehend the risk of such event to a better extent and implement more effective protection strategies. The conclusions and suggestions summarize the main aspects of legal protection of trade secrets that were determined in the literature analysis as well as the findings of empirical research. The author believes that this study is a useful tool for businesses who aim to implement effective trade secrets protection policies within their company.","abstract_html":"The purpose of this thesis is to assess the importance of trade secret protection, defense options in the event of misappropriation and, based on the data of the research, determine trade secret protection practices used by organisations.
