Abstract
dc:descriptionThe analysis of scientific papers describes the evolution of wind turbines, when they became relevant as a source of energy, the problems they encountered in the twentieth century and the impact they are having today. The importance of wind power is illustrated by various figures on how this clean energy can change the climate, how widespread it is in the world, the percentage of wind power in selected European countries and the future goals for wind power. It is described how the development of a wind turbine project can be divided into four main stages, ranging from market assessment to the construction period. Each of these stages lasts for a different duration and faces various challenges. Eight types of financial risk have been identified. These have been extensively analyzed and explained on the basis of material gathered from other research papers. 14 different possible ways of financing wind farms were selected. Based on the information gathered, the selected financing options were analyzed in terms of their advantages and disadvantages. Methods to calculate the return on investment and payback period were revealed. A review of North Sea offshore wind farms was presented, providing information about project financing structures, capacities, construction periods, costs and financial results of four North Sea countries. After analyzing this information, it was clear that Germany has the highest average revenue among the analyzed countries. Additionally, the standard deviation of project revenues was quite low, indicating that Germany is a favorable environment for investing in wind turbines between other analyzed countries. The correlation analysis between sources of financing and revenues shows that equity financing is more likely to generate higher financial returns than other sources of financing. A weak negative correlation was also found between equity financing and the construction period, which may lead to a shorter construction period if more equity is invested.
