Abstract

dc:description

This paper analyzes the application of blockchain technology in the education sector, emphasizing the process of accounting of students' social-civic hours. Although the technology is in an early phase of development and has a wide range of applications, it is currently being introduced in the public sector and education relatively slowly. Considering this problem, analytical and empirical qualitative research methods are applied in the work, including the analysis and creation of a demonstration prototype. The information is collected by analyzing scientific literature and legal documents, conducting observation, a semi-standardized interview and a diagnostic survey in order to obtain detailed information from the respondents. The applied Porter's Five Forces Analysis Model allows for a more detailed assessment of the structure of education and the competitive environment, which influences the strategic planning of the education sector. Prototyping the accounting system of students’ social-civic hours and placing it on the Ethereum Sepolia pilot blockchain demonstrates a new technology that will benefit future phases of research or technology implementation. It is an important part of the technological innovation process, which provides the assessment of how the technology can perform in real-world conditions. The developed accounting system of students' socio-civic hours is used for a structural hypothetical model/prototype that reveals the possibilities, challenges and effectiveness of the application of blockchain technology. The results show that this technology has a significant potential for revolutionary changes, but its widespread application requires large investment and a long period of adaptation. The work recommends expanding the Cultural Education system already operating in Lithuania, which uses blockchain and centralized database technologies in order to integrate both systems and maximize their potential. The work reveals the possibilities of the application of blockchain technology in the education sector, analyzes the factors influencing its implementation and determines how this technology can transform the education sector by encouraging student volunteering. The purpose of the study is to assess the possibilities and effectiveness of applying blockchain technology in the process of accounting of students' social-civic hours, identifying the main benefits, challenges and practical aspects of application.
