Tasks of the study: 1. To estimate the changes of renal cancer incidence in Lithuania in 1998 – 2012. 2. To estimate the changes of renal cancer incidence in Lithuania depending on stage of the disease in 1998 – 2012. 3. To estimate the changes of renal cancer mortality in Lithuania in 1998 – 2012. Methods: Incidence and mortality data were collected from Lithuanian Cancer Registry. Age standardized rates were calculated using direct method of standardization and computed per 100 000 population. Incidence and mortality trends were evaluated by statistical software “JoinPoint” (version 4.3.1.0) Joinpoint regression analysis was used to identify points in time where significant changes occurred. The significance level was set at p<0,05. Annual percentage of change and the corresponding 95% confidence interval were estimated for each trend. Results: Incidence of renal cancer during 1998 – 2012 period was increasing all the time at both sexes. Incidence rate in man significantly increased by 1,8 % (95% PI 0,9–2,6) and by 1,6% (95% PI 0,6–2,5) in woman. Incidence at the first stage of renal cancer was increasing for both sexes. On the other hand, incidence in second, third and fourth stages of cancer were decreasing during the period of 1998 – 2012. Cancer death rates were continuously decreasing from 1998 to 2012. Among man, mortality not significantly decreased in – 0,3 %(95%PI -1,9 – 1,3) and among woman - -1,8 % (95%PI -3,5 – 0,0) Conclusions: While overall incidence of kidney cancer was increasing, decreasing incidence of II, III and IV renal cancer stages can be interpreted as a positive change due to increasing trend in I stage incidence. The increase of overall incidence could be explained by wider prevalence of risk factors.
