dc:descriptionCannabis Use Among the Students, Consumption Habits and Approach to Using it The relevance of the subject. The youth of today are one of the most significant and at the same time the most vulnerable groups of society. Therefore it is crucial to determine - the widespread of cannabis; student’s reasons to start consuming narcotic substances; their using habits and their point of view to consuming cannabis. The answers of these questions may help to create the prevention programs for not only consumption of cannabis, moreover, for consumption of all psychoactive substances among young people. Work objectives. To establish the prevalence of cannabis consumption and using habits among VU MF I-IV Public Health course students, furthermore, to reveal the students point of view to consuming narcotic substances. Work tasks. 1.To detemine and to evaluate the prevalence of cannabis consumption among VU MF VS I-IV course students. 2.To determine students habits of cannabis use. 3.To identify students attitudes towards cannabis consumption and the people who are consuming. Research material and methods. The study was carried out in an anonymous questionnaire. To create the questionnaire it was applied the information from department’s of Narcotics, tobacco and alcohol control research ,, The prevalence of psychoactive drugs consumption in Lithuania in 2012’’ questionnaire. Moreover, it includes a number of additional questions which were created for the purpose of this study. The research was carried out in March 2016. The research data was processed using a SPSS program 17.0 version. Results. 115 VU MF VS I-IV course students participated in the research. 60% of them confirmed they have tried cannabis. 66,7% of students used cannabis during the last 12 months and 37,3% used it during the last 30 days. Most of the students consumed cannabis couple of times and they are not regular users. It was established that the most common situation for using cannabis is while students are with their friends or at the parties and when they want to relax or they are just curious to try it. 67,8% of the students know the harmful health effects of cannabis. Even though, more than half of the students have a negative attitude towards cannabis, however, they do not consider the people who are consuming cannabis nor sick, nor criminals. Moreover, if they would become aware that one of their relatives has this addiction they would not take any action. Only 37% of students disagree that cannabis should be legalised. Conclusion. 1. 60 % of respondents have tried cannabis at least once in life. 66,7 % of students used cannabis during the last 12 months and 37,3 % used it during the last 30 days. 2. Mostly students consume cannabis out of the curiosity, the desire to relax or while being with their friends and at the parties. 3. More than half of the students have a negative attitude towards cannabis; however, they do not consider the people who are consuming cannabis nor criminals.
