Surgical treatment of venous deficiency includes not only the patient, but also nursing staff. It requires considering post-operative symptoms and needs of the patient. The research involved 39 patients (age 48 ± 14.7) men and women (9 men and 30 women) who had varicose vein surgery, and 38 nurses, whose average age 38.9 ± 1.34. The survey of respondents was carried out from February to March of 2016 at Vein Surgery Departments of Vilnius city clinical hospital and PI Vilnius University Hospital Santariškių klinikos, with the permit of nursing administration. Patients were provided with a questionnaire of 34 questions that allowed assessing the patient’s condition, nursing needs, problems and help in solving them. Nurses were provided with a questionnaire of 28 questions that allowed analyse the competence of nurses in solving post-operative problems of patients and their skills to assess patient’s complaints, internal and external post-operative factors. Data analysis was carried out using a computer program “Microsoft Excel”. Results and conclusions. Research results showed that nursing for patients after varicose vein surgery is not complicated, there are no difficulties with the respiratory system, they are able to eat and move independently, although a few needs help to get a wash. Patients are mostly disturbed by unsafe and unknown environment, due to which they experience disturbed sleep and post-operative pain, which remains as the most important nursing subject. Patients trust nursing staff and usually discuss nursing problems, but they are unsatisfied with nursing staff interaction and they lack information on treatment prescribed to patients. Nurses believe that the most common nursing issue is post-operative pain, which does not depend on age, there are no complications after these surgeries, but patients suffer from anxiety and insomnia, fell psychological discomfort. Personal patient problems are discussed with nurses, although, time for one patient is limited – only 10-30 minutes.
