Nursing and Mood Changes of the Patients with Addictive Disorders During Their Treatment Under the Minnesota Program Objective: To evaluate changes in patients' mood before and after the treatment of Minnesota program, examine the care, approach to nurses and treatment program in people suffering from addictive disorders. Tasks: 1. To investigate and compare the mood changes before and after treatment in respondents suffering from addiction diseases receiving treatment according to the Minnesota program. 2. Evaluate respondents approach to the provided treatment. NURSING AND MOOD CHANGES OF THE PATIENTS WITH ADDICTIVE DISORDERS DURING THEIR TREATMENT UNDER THE MINNESOTA PROGRAM 3. To ascertain the role of nurses in Minnesota program, as well as the approach to their work. Methods of research: A total of 30 individuals, who are undergoing treatment in Vilnius Substance Abuse Treatment Center according to the Minnesota program, have participated in the research. The research was carried out through the months of February - April in 2016. The Zung depression scale was used to carry out the research. It consists of 20 questions assessing psychological, somatic and affective symptoms. This scale has been submitted before and after treatment, in order to assess the mood changes. The after-treatment survey is complemented by a questionnaire made by the author to assess the opinion on specialists and the program. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS 16 software. Results: The study included 79.9% men and 24.1% - women. The youngest participant in the study was 28 years old, and the oldest - 60. The average age of the group of subjects - 43.37 years old. The obtained results show that the first measurement point average was 42.70. Based on the assessment intervals of the Zung depression scale, this is equivalent to the medium level of depression. The second measurement showed changes after a single treatment program. The average score dropped to 35.74. This resembles a low level of depression. Depression decreased significantly. Respondents rated the work of social workers the highest and the majority of the respondents said that they interacted with these specialists the most. 60% of the respondents listed group sessions as the most effective part of the treatment. Professionalism is the most rated feature in the nurses work. 74% evaluated their work as excellent, 23% - well, and 3% - average. The Minnesota program was evaluated as excellent by 70% of the respondents, and as well by 30%. Conclusions: 1. Respondents who are treated according to the Minnesota program experienced an improved emotional state, and their depression levels declined from moderate to low. 2. The usefulness of the Minnesota program is evaluated as excellent. The most effective part of the treatment - group sessions. Subjects mainly interacted with social workers and evaluated their work the most positively. 3. Respondents most appreciated by the professionalism of nurses, and presentable appearance was appreciated the least. Almost three-quarters of the respondents value their work as excellent.
