Work Leader: doc. Violeta Ožeraitienė, department of Nursing and Fundamentals of Internal Medicine 2016-05-16 Work size: 49 pages. Keywords: physical, psycho-emotional, patient’s condition, personality type D, relations, pacemaker, implantation. The aim of research work: to evaluate relationship between physical and psycho-emotional state in patients after pacemaker implantation. Tasks of work: 1. Investigate and evaluate the patients’ social, medical and demographic data after pacemaker implantation. 2. Investigate and evaluate the patients’ physical, psycho-emotional conditions and type D personality of patients after pacemaker implantation. 3. Evaluate the relations between physical, psycho-emotional condition of patients and type D personality of patients after pacemaker implantation. 4. Investigate and evaluate nursing needs of patients after pacemaker implantation. Materials and methods. The research included 50 patients with implanted pacemakers and 50 without pacemaker (control group) from the Cardiac Department and 30 nurses from therapeutic and surgery departments. The questionnaire survey is the method of this research which was carried out in February - April in 2016. The questionnaires consisted of: 1) questions about demographic data – sex, education, marital status; 2) “Aquarel questionnaire” was used to investigate the physical condition of patients, 3) Beck’s and “Type D (distressed) personality Scale - DS14” scales were used to investigate the psycho-emotional condition of patients and kind of personality (proun to anxiety, negative emotions, social closure); 4) 10 questions questionnaire was created by the researchers to evaluate nurses’ knowledge about pacemakers. Results. Patients with pacemaker average age was 67.3±9,7 years. Evaluated patients with pacemaker were mainly patients with secondary education (44 percent) and most of them were married (56.2 percent). Analyzes showed that physical condition among patients with pacemaker (64.32 points) was worse than the control group (83.45 points). The evaluation of psycho-emotional state in Beck’s scale showed similar points between patients with pacemaker (12.72) and the control group (10.42). Personality type D evaluation has shown that there is a higher prevalence of type D personality patients with pacemakers (54 percent), than in the control group (28 percent). The assessment of the physical and psycho-emotional state relations showed a significant negative correlation between physical condition and depression in patients with pacemakers (r = -0.648; p <0.001). The relationships were established among the physical condition and D personality (p = 0.012) too. There was also found that Beck depression scores are significantly higher among the type D personatilies (17.22) as compared to patients who are not type D (7.43). The analysis of nurses' knowledge about pacemakers showed that the surgical nurses knew more than (8.47 points) therapeutic nurses (6.87 points). Conclusions. In the study of patients with implanted pacemakers’ age, education, marital status was not significantly different from the control group. In the evaluation of patients after pacemaker implantation psycho-emotional and physical condition, it was found that these patients had both physical and psyho-emotional condition significantly worse than the control group, there were more type D personalities in pacemakers’ group. There was found a significant correlation between the physical and psychoemotional conditions and personalities type D being distressed. The evaluation of nurses’ knowledge about pacemakers showed that the surgical nurses significantly better knew about pacemaker care than therapeutic nurses.","abstract_html":"Relationship Between Physical and Psychoemotional State in Patients After Pacemaker Implantation The Author: student Gabrielė Čepaitė, nursing bachelor program at Vilnius University.
