Establishing a successful prevention program for cardiovascular disease is one of the most important priorities of the health care system. The aim of research work: the objective of the thesis is to assess the knowledge about cardiovascular disease prevention program in men aged 40 – 55 and women aged 50 – 65 years old. Tasks of work: 1. Assess and compare knowledge about cardiovascular disease prevention program in men aged 40 – 55 and women aged 50 – 65 years old; 2. To evaluate the role of nurses in providing information about the cardiovascular disease prevention program; 3. Identify and assess lifestyle habits, according to the respondents' gender, education. Materials and methods. The study involved a total of 145 men and 145 women. The respondents, with a high risk of cardiovascular disease, were selected by age – men aged 40 – 55 years old and women aged 50 – 65 years old. The survey carried out from the 29 of January, 2016 up to the 31 of March, 2016. March 31, in public institution Šeškinės clinic. 29 closed – question questionnaire was prepared to carry out the study. The questionnaire consisted of questions on subjects of social – demographic data (age, education, social group); their lifestyle habits (drugs, dietary habits, physical activity, interest in healthy lifestyles); cardiovascular disease prevention program. For further investigation as comparison of men and women was carried out in order to find the association between respondents' gender and knowledge about cardiovascular disease prevention program. Analysis of data was carried out using SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences Release) for Windows 16.0 statistical data collection and analysis software package, Microsoft Office Excel 2007 spreadsheets and Winpepi 2.75. Results. 82.1 percents (n=238) of the population, the majority of who were women, have heard about the ongoing cardiovascular disease prevention program in Lithuania. 43.8 percents (n=127) of respondents, the majority of who were women, indicated that they have enough knowledge about this program. According to the respondents, the preferred method of providing information is direct contact (67.2 percents, n=195). 44.8 percents (n=130) of subjects learned about the program from nurses. 34.1 percents, (n=99) of the respondents indicated addictive behavior. 88.3 percents (n=256) of the respondents are interested in a healthy lifestyle. More than half of the respondents (55.9 percents, n=162) do not exercise. Conclusions. The respondents do not know enough about the cardiovascular disease prevention program. The nurses do not present enough information about the opportunity to participate in the program. After assessing and identifying the lifestyle habits of respondents it was apparent that gender and education had an impact on harmful habits, physical activity, and general interest in a healthy lifestyle.
