Intymumo ir pasitenkinimo santuokoje ryšys /
Abstract
dc:descriptionDivorce has a high prevalence in Lithuania. In 2018 stood out 44 % of couples, more than half of them raised minor children. Divorce statistics in Lithuania correspond to the European average. Psychotherapists reveal that one of the most common issues for couples is intimacy (Cordova, 2003). Partners who do not create intimacy in a long-term relationship feel dissatisfied with the relationship and that leads to an increased likelihood of divorce or separation in the future (Prager & Buhrmester, 1998; Lauer, Lauer, Kerr, & 1990). The paper examines the phenomenon of intimacy by applying the theory of intimacy (Cordova & Scott, 2001), the concept of autonomy as indicated by the theory of self-determination, and satisfaction with relationships. The aim of the research: to evaluate the relationship between intimacy and relationship satisfaction of child-rearing partners. The study involved 95 respondents aged 27–50, selected by convenience sampling: 70 women and 25 men, 75 married and 20 unmarried. Evaluation measures for intimacy, relationship satisfaction, autonomy, communication, time spent together were used. Results: intimacy and relationship satisfaction have a particularly strong relationship. Intimacy and satisfaction have significant relationships with a person's autonomy, positive and negative communication during disagreements, time spent together. Intimacy can be predicted by relationship satisfaction, positive communication and a couple's time spent together. Relationship satisfaction can be predicted by intimacy, autonomy and with a smaller amount of negative communication during disagreements. Men and women, married and unmarried couples, do not differ according to the above variables. The persons’ autonomy and the time spent together showed differences. Partners with the highest autonomy feel intimacy and satisfaction the most, they spend time together more frequency, and communicate positively during disagreements. Spouses who spend more time together feel more intimacy and relationship satisfaction during parenting, also are more autonomous, and communicate more positively. Formal aspects of marriage, e.g. having children, is not significant for the experience of intimacy and relationship satisfaction. The paper confirmed the importance of intimacy for satisfaction in marriage.
