Xing 性 (žmogaus prigimties) reikšmė Dong Zhongshu mokyme /
Abstract
dc:descriptionThe Meaning of Xing 性 (Human Nature) in Dong Zhongshu’s Thought The object of the bachelor’s thesis is the term of xing in the teaching of the thinker of Confucianism Dong Zhongshu and in the philosophical work Chungiu fanlu, attributed to him, in particular. The aim of the thesis is to find out the origin and the uniqueness of the conception xing, as seen by Dong Zhongshu. To achieve the purpose of the thesis, the following objectives are being raised: to review the research on Dong Zhongshu teachings in the West and the attitude towards him in the history of the imperial China, to ascertain the origin of the concept of xing in the classical Confucianism, to define the conceptions closely connected with the term xing, such as yin yang, wu xing and their application in the teaching by Dong Zhongshu; to find out the differences of the understanding and explanation of the conception of xing by Xunzi, Mengzi and Dong Zhongshu. After analysing the research of the authorship of the work, attributed to Dong Zhongshu, we can come to the conclusion that this source is not the work by only one thinker, most likely, it is a collection of separate texts. The wuxing correlative philosophy is mentioned in the Chungiu fanlu, which, in the opinion of many researcers, could not be linked to Dong Zhonshu and thus is not a reliable source in the explanation of the features of xing in his teaching. Whereas most of the ying yang chapters, related to the explanation of xing are concidered to be the original thoughts by Dong Zhongsu. By using the comparative analysis of xing interpreted in Mengzi, Xunzi and Dong Zhongshu’s thought, it can be clearly seen that Dong Zhongshu’s concept of xing is not good by nature, as in Mengzi’s thought, or, as in Xunzi’s opinion - bad, but dualistic (possesses both, yin and yang). Dong Zhongshu’s interpretation of xing is associated with the relation of heaven and human, the importance of human’s heart in order to seek for goodness, and also the rituals. That is why this concept is so distinctive. This bachelor’s thesis can be of use to the community, scholars and students who are interested in Dong Zhongshu’s thought or the text of the Chunqiu fanlu. This paper also provides the basic points of the correliative philosophy of the yin yang.
