What are the characteristics of young people as a citizen? What is the opinion of young people, what is important for a person who is a citizen? How do students perceive the importance of citizenship education? What encourages school-age children to be citizens? The object of the research. Citizenship education at school The aim of the research. To reveal how citizenship education helps to educate a civic student at school and what aspects influence it. Research methodology and organization. The methods of the research. Theoretical: Analysis, comparison, systematization, generalization of scientific and methodological literature and documents. Empirical: a questionnaire survey of 9-10 grade students, a written survey of teachers - interview. Statistical: statistical visualization, analysis, systematization, interpretation of questionnaire, and qualitative data. Conclusions. As a separate subject, citizenship is greatly underestimated, it is not properly viewed by school students or teachers, it is theoretically included, in general, subjects, but teachers of other subjects do not make much effort to declare the idea of citizenship in their lessons. In the empirical study, students formed a general image of a citizen by distinguishing the characteristics of a citizen, which is characterized by: observance of laws, the performance of duties, respect for one's nation, perception of historical aspects, tolerance, civics, courtesy, honesty, responsibility for one's actions, interest in one's country culture and pride in it, respect for national attributes. It was found that students are encouraged to be civic and engage in any form of citizenship: social aspects, this is not only a joint activity with friends but also the search for new acquaintances. Of course, this is greatly influenced by the example of active citizens in the circle of relatives and maybe even joint activities, various organizations, and most importantly, an interesting idea of activities.
