Odontogenic maxillofacial infections, evaluation of determinants and treatment modalities /
Abstract
dc:descriptionDespite advancements in medicine odontogenic maxillofacial infections are still prevalent in Lithuania. This pathology can be life threatening, and challenging in treatment. There have been no previous national Lithuanian studies about odontogenic maxillofacial infections. The present work evaluated different aspects related to management of Lithuanian patients with acute odontogenic maxillofacial infections (AOMI). This clinical study examined different AOMI-related determinants (social, clinical and access to primary dental care) and associated them with varying lengths of hospitalization. In this study, the status of oral health, total dental treatment needs, specific dental treatment needs and factors explaining (determinants) the length of hospitalization were examined. In addition, common microorganisms responsible for acute odontogenic maxillofacial infections and their susceptibility to antimicrobial agents were evaluated.
