The main issue encountered when writing editorials is the fact that there is a very limited amount of space within newspapers, thus an editorial must often be squeezed in within the limits of a single page or a column, while at the same time the author of an editorial must also transmit as much information as possible to his readers. In order to overcome the aforesaid issue, newspaper editorials adopt certain rules, i.e., they follow certain structures and, most importantly, apply certain linguistic devices in order to economize their texts.
