Rezidencinė diferenciacija Lietuvoje posovietmečiu (gyventojų surašymų duomenų mažose teritorijose pagrindu) /

The aim of dissertation is to start small area data (250-500 of inhabitants) based residential differentiation research in Lithuania. Residential differentiation during 1990s was relatively stable and year 2001 data represents a whole period quiet well. Principal component and cluster analysis methods were used and multiple segregation measurements made in 3 largest Lithuanian cities. Main dimensions of residential differentiation identified: 1) socio-urban status; 2) winners of post-soviet transition vs single pensioners; 3) intergenerational inequality; 4) greater inequality, polonised vs areas with more 1970s housing, 5-14 year old population; 5-6) representing some aspects of privatization and social integration. It was identified that 3 parts of Vilnius – inner city, housing estates and outer city – were developing differently than in second tier cities and social status of Vilnius neighborhoods went up during 2001-2011 greatly. Segregation of different occupational groups was the most pronounced in Vilnius too, as a result new polarized and low status neighborhoods were developing. Two level – census enumerator district and local authority-city – area typology revealed some relatively homogeneous types. The main difference between the areas was based on the share of individual housing and flats. Other traits – average number of persons per dwelling, aging, polish ethnicity, 1970s housing – shows up to 5 times differences in individual types too. Based on area typology 18 formative and 2 main regions were identified. Western and Central Lithuania region has 4 cities with 100.000 of inhabitants, which development in Soviet period started earlier and rural areas with some agricultural towns. Eastern Lithuania includes capital, some newer, smaller industrial towns and aging rural areas.
