Lietuvių literatūros istorija: teorinis rašymų tyrimas /

This dissertation seeks to rethink newly the beginning of Lithuanian Literary History writings from the first historiography narrative episodes in the 19th century and the first amateur and professional literary history attempts in the first half of the 20th century. The research covers all forms of Lithuanian literary histories writing and rewritings, and reflects Lithuanian cultural consciousness and aesthetic maturity. From the perspective of postmodern methodological positions (The New Historicism, The Narrative history of Philosophy), Literary History is considered to be named a great/grand narrative (metanarrative). This major genre express nation’s historical memory and identity, is closely associated with the fictional writing, tropes of speech and imaginations of historian. In Europe the prosperity of history writings reached its apogee in 19th century. At that time Lithuania was in unfavorable historical circumstances, so traditionally it is believed that the great academic history was written only in time of the Soviet occupation and was committed to Marxist viewpoint. The thesis states that the metanarrative of literary history was formed much earlier: in various episodes of historiography, which the authors took a clear civil, ethnic, moral and aesthetic position. The existence of metanarrative also proves alternative forms of literary history, written during the interwar period, – such as the Avant-gardist, the Marxist and others writings, intentionally pointed against the positive historiography.
