The Pharmacist's Role in Consulting Patients with Joint Diseases // Роля на магистър-фармацевта при консултиране на болни със ставни заболявания
Abstract
dc:descriptionThe study examines the role of the master pharmacist in improving the physical condition of chronically ill patients with joint disease (osteoarthritis) through the application of individualized pharmaceutical care. Analyzing the available modern literature on the provision of pharmaceutical care, the features of pharmaceutical care in patients with chronic degenerative and inflammatory joint diseases are highlighted. An algorithm for providing individualized pharmaceutical care to patients with joint diseases (osteoarthritis) has been developed and evaluated. The study design is a controlled, field-based experimental study. Two groups were formed: “experimental” with 248 patients receiving pharmaceutical care and “control” with 178 patients, served in a standard way. The application of the created algorithm to all patients from the experimental group led to the improvement of their therapeutic results, such as improvement of physical activity, reduction of movement difficulties, reduction of pain, reduction of body mass index, improvement of safety and efficacy of used non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and it can be successfully introduced in pharmacy practice.
