Protection of Population in Case of Flood Risk in Varna Region // Защита на населението при риск от наводнения във Варненска област
Abstract
dc:descriptionThe flood risk in Bulgaria (in particular Varna region) is real and depends on three factors: those associated with the flood risk of floods; human and natural systems exposed to stranded waters and the vulnerability of these systems. Varna region's major flood risks are: floods of the Kamchia River and the Provadiyska River after torrential rains and a threat to the nearby municipalities and fields; after intense, prolonged rainfall - affecting some urban areas and of the available 67 dams for Varna Region 15 are potentially dangerous. The analysis and systematization of the flood health risks were carried out. To mitigate the consequences and eliminate flood risks, it is essential to carry out emergency health and hygiene and epidemic measures. In our country, rescue, medical and hygiene-epidemic units are organized by the civil health system, and a limited number of them by the Bulgarian Red Cross (BRC). A sociological survey of 230 people (over 18 years) from Varna region was conducted to study the awareness of flood protection and first aid and found that the preparation was not sufficient. Assessment of the awareness and readiness of 230 foreign respondents temporarily resided in Varna, which is better than the Bulgarian citizens.
