Abstract
dc:descriptionCare for patients with brain stroke requires nurse’s attention to focus on various aspects of the patient's condition. Substantial factors determining the specificity of nursing care at this contingent are changes in the consciousness and in the degree of patient’s dependence. A major tool in world’s practice with patients with quantitative disturbances of consciousness, used to determine to what extent it is affected, is the Glasgow-Liège scale. The scale is applied by physicians, nurses, students, paramedics in a number of diseases - brain stroke, infections, convulsions, cerebral abscess, general trauma, non-traumatic coma, overdose and poisoning. Adequate nursing care, which greatly determines the course of the disease, development of complications, and post-stroke recovery is directly dependent on an accurate assessment of patient's functional condition. The clarity of the scale enables nurses to easily detect important tendencies in the condition of the patient. Complications after brain stroke have a significant impact on the quality of life of patients and their families. Training and education of patients who survived a brain stroke depends on their condition or on their relatives during the hospital stay, synchronized with the healing process and the rehabilitation measures, that would help to restore self-care and independence in everyday activities, improve the quality of life of stroke survivors, lowering patient’s and his family‘s expenses, and preventing relapse.
