Organisation of Neurosurgical Care in Bulgaria. Comparative Analysis // Организация на неврохирургичната помощ в България – сравнителен анализ

The severity of neurological diseases requiring surgical treatment and the limited capacity for neurosurgical care have become increasingly important in recent decades. It is estimated that an additional 23,300 neurosurgeons are needed to meet the burden of existing cases worldwide. Initiatives to increase neurosurgical capacity through strengthening systems and workforce development are key elements in addressing this deficit. The standard of services being offered is increasingly under discussion. At the same time, there is no strategy to evaluate the neurosurgical care provided in Bulgaria. Developing recommendations for the organisation of neurosurgical care based on comparative analysis would be of great benefit. This thesis aims to present, analyse, and compare the current state of neurosurgical care in Bulgaria. A key component is to develop and introduce recommendations with guidelines for Bulgarian patients to receive neurosurgical care. The aim is to improve both its quality and accessibility, ensuring they meet the standards of a developed European country – Germany, as well as other high-income countries (HICs).
