Fluoride Varnishes for Prevention and Treatment of Initial Dental Caries in Children Aged 3 to 6 Years //// Профилактика и лечение на началния дентален кариес с флуорни лакове в детска възраст от 3 до 6 години
Abstract
dc:descriptionDental caries is one of the most common oral diseases affecting people of all ages. Purpose of the study: To explore and assess the effectiveness of Clinpro White Varnish (CV) mineralized varnish after non-invasive treatment of caries of temporary teeth and create a non-surgical preventive treatment approach. Tasks. This objective can be achieved by solving the following tasks: To conduct an epidemiological study on the prevalence of caries of temporary teeth, depending on the overall tooth decay in children. To identify the main risk factors for caries of temporary teeth taking effect in the studied group of children through a survey of their parents. To carry out an experimental exploration of the anti-caries activity of the Clinpro White Varnish fluoride varnish through modern methods – SEM, microtomography and X-ray diffraction. To assess the effectiveness of remineralization of Clinpro White Varnish applied in case of reversible, active carious lesions and surfaces through diagnostics based on laser fluorescence. Preparation of a clinical protocol. Subject of monitoring are 300 children from Varna, aged 3 to 6 years, divided equally in age standardized groups with an equal number of boys and girls. Out of the examined in total 300 children aged 3 to 6 years were received dmft = 4,40 ± 0,21 dmfs = 6,35 ± 0,65. Any age has its level of caries activity of the temporary teeth. Oral hygiene at any age is unsatisfactory to poor. For 4 year olds OHIs is 1.9, for 5 year olds OHIs is 2.0 and in 6 year olds OHIs is 2.3. The contingent is predominated by reversible lesions, i.e. any age is suitable for non-invasive preventive treatment. In studying risk factors and the behaviour of parents towards oral prophylaxis a need was established for a new approach of children's dentists oriented to programming preventive and non-invasive treatment of children according to their individual needs.
