[EN] Clinical laboratory is part of the outpatient and inpatient care in Bulgaria and the laboratory results ensure optimal options for establishing an early diagnosis and determining the effect of treatment and the degree of health recovery. Territorial disproportions in the provision of healthcare services in outpatient care create difficulties in patients’ access to the general practitioners and the medical-diagnostic laboratories. This is a prerequisite for the growing demand of medical care in the medical emergency centres and the emergency units at the hospitals. This creates problems in the interaction with other structures of the healthcare system. The main burden falls on the affiliates where healthcare needs are met by the middle-tier medical staff. This can be observed especially in the smaller and remote places.
