Characteristics of Nursing Care in Paediatric Wards and Infection Control // Особености на здравните грижи в детско отделение и контрол на инфекциите

Child’s health is a priority for health systems around the world. Nosocomial infections are a global problem, and children's wards are identified as being at risk of developing these infections. Aim: To investigate the specifics of health care in paediatric wards, the associated organisation of infection control, and staff knowledge of healthcare-associated infections (HAI) control. Objectives: To clarify the specifics of the health care provided to paediatric patients and to what extent the implementation of control measures has complied with the work process in the wards. To derive the criteria for effectiveness in controlling HAI. To propose an optimisation of the control measures for HAI. Hypotheses: It is assumed that performance gaps are identified in the paediatric wards, which is a prerequisite for the occurrence of HAIs. Methodology: Survey. Descriptive statistics, correlation analysis. Study Subject: The organisation of prevention and control of nosocomial infections in delivering health care in paediatric wards. Organisation of the study: The study was carried out in the period 01.12.2021 – 31.05.2022 through two anonymous surveys in the cities of Sliven and Varna among a total of 118 respondents - 46 nurses, 60 students and 12 orderlies. Conclusions: There was insufficient systematisation of knowledge about standard precautions. Respondents mentioned the presence of attendants in the ward as a risk factor. Insufficient updating of nurses' knowledge was found.
