Multidisciplinary Team Care in the Prophylaxis of Children’s Eye Health – A Focus on Nurse’s Professional Activity // Мултидисциплинарна екипна грижа при профилактика на детското очно здраве – професионален фокус на медицинската сестра

We present the first complex and in-depth research on the Bulgarian and international experience with a focus from the perspective of the nurse's participation in the prevention of children's eye health. A study and analysis of the current Bulgarian legislation on the prevention of children's vision and its application in the medical professionals' practice have been done. We have studied the attitudes and the barriers for conducting preventive activities for children's eye health by a multidisciplinary team consisting of four different kinds of medical specialists available in our country- ophthalmologist, nurse, optometrist and medical optician. General scientific methods for conducting research - documentary, historical, sociological and statistical have been used in the dissertation paper. Based on the conducted research and the application of basic scientific methods, the following theoretically substantiated and practically applicable contributions have been obtained. The essence of modern ophthalmological health care has been developed. A model to provide a preventive environment for children's eye health by applying a multidisciplinary approach has been developed. In order to facilitate the practical application of the model, proposals for monitoring children's vision and referral criteria to an ophthalmologist have been developed. The functions of the nurse in the multidisciplinary team for the prevention of children's eye health have been defined.
