Monetary Vs Non-Monetary Rewards: How Different Rewards Influence Employee Motivation in the Manufacturing Sector in the UK

Abstract

dc:description.abstract

Employee motivation remains a critical factor influencing organisational performance, particularly within the highly competitive UK manufacturing sector. This study examines the influence of monetary and non-monetary rewards on employee motivation, aiming to identify which reward mechanisms are perceived as most effective. A quantitative research design was employed, with data gathered through a structured survey distributed to 50 employees working in the UK manufacturing sector. The data were analysed in Microsoft Excel and SPSS software using descriptive statistics, reliability test, Pearson correlation, and multiple regression analysis. The results show that while monetary rewards remain important in supporting baseline motivation and perceptions of fairness, non-monetary rewards such as recognition, training, and development opportunities play a stronger role in sustaining long-term motivation. Furthermore, the results reveal a clear preference among employees for balanced reward systems that incorporate both financial and non-financial incentives. This study contributes to the existing literature by empirically applying established motivational theories within an under-researched sector and provides practical insights for manufacturing organisations seeking to develop effective and sustainable reward strategies.
