The goal of this study is to help establish a foundation for cost effective stroke patient telerehabilitation by examining the efficacy of off-the-shelf consumer motion sensors. This paper examines the practical implications of utilizing Apple iOS mobile devices and Variable Technology KORE NODE devices in the evaluation of stroke patient recovery. Several algorithms are proposed to handle the user positioning and cheating detection requirements of the Functional Reach Test (FRT), efficient scoring of the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) motor arm exams, and real-time fall detection monitoring.
