Early implementation of AAC devices for this particular population has been proven successful through the improvement of speech production and language development (Topia & Hocking, 2012). Several factors play an important role in a child’s success or abandonment of an AAC device including speech-language pathologist (SLP) expertise, familial support and perceptions, AAC acceptance, and availability of AAC therapeutic services.
