Abstract
dc:description.abstract
These are short stories where people who don't have very much lose some of what they have. This is a collection of fairy tales, magic realism, surrealism, and other kinds of wonder. In one, a man lives in beer cans until a little girl steals them to recycle. In another, a contractor in the Middle East finds a magical stone that makes him bulletproof, but he dies because he won' t hear the stone's story. In others, a strange man puts an entire town into cages and rolls them away, a woman rules an oyster bar, a beautiful inventor creates new ears from parts ordered off Ebay. A boy meets and loses the love of his life, a young singer leaves her city, a father sells his son's truck, and a man sleeps with his sister. Most of these stories are sad.
