Truths of Indian Boarding School: A Symposium

<p>Museums are increasingly engaging with socially conscious content. This is a reflection of the public’s perception that museums are sites of truth and will present complete and honest information of complicated issues. The following project will propose a symposium stemming from the need for more conversation in museums about the difficult truths of Indian Boarding Schools, as current dialogue is limited. This project will examine and gather scholars, museum professionals, and community members from Native American and African American museums, as well as the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum, to convene for a two-day symposium to discuss the way museums have told, and might tell the Indian Boarding School story in the pursuit of social justice. </p>
