Standards of Care and Practice to Reduce Catheter-Associated Urinary Tract Infections

<p>The national initiative to reduce hospital-acquired CAUTIs continues to be a priority among organizations such as the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid, the Centers for Disease and Control, and the Joint Commission. While evidence-based literature supports decreasing the number of indwelling catheters and reducing the number of day’s catheters remain inserted, the persistent infection rates demonstrate the need for continued improvements in hospital processes and nursing practices related to urinary catheters. </p>
