The Rehabbing of Cardiac Rehabilitation

Abstract

dc:description.abstract

Abstract

The theme of this CNL project is Risk Manager. By addressing this issue of exercise non-compliance, multiple issues involving safety, holistic health and time utilization are in focus. The Cardiovascular Progressive Care Unit at the Cardiovascular Institute within John Muir Medical Center in Concord, California is where this project took place. This is a 17 bed step-down unit for the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit. The patient population is primarily comprised of cardiovascular surgery patients. The main aspects of my study were the time study analyses done with RN’s in the unit. The data collected from the observations allowed me to develop measurable goals and attain them. Inpatient education and progress sheets have been modified in an effort to prompt the RN’s and patients to complete their daily rehabilitation exercises. This intervention is geared towards accelerating patient recovery and expediting discharge to decrease length of stay for this CV surgery population. The entire staff has been receptive to the improvement modifications related to this project. Our RN’s are now incorporating these patient rehabilitation exercises into their daily routines almost effortlessly.
