This capstone project is a design for \"Empowering YOUth,\" a free-of-charge, foundation funded educational program for underserved eighth graders attending school in lower socioeconomic communities. The program theme is of social responsibility and unity, with an artistic, creative exploration component. I conceived this program for The Contemporary Jewish Museum (CJM), located in downtown San Francisco. The organization was founded in 1984, and moved to its current refurbished PG&E substation location in 2008. Inscribed upon a wall near the front door is the phrase from the Pirkei Avot (The Ethics of the Fathers): \"It is not incumbent upon you to complete the work, but neither are you at liberty to desist from it.\" This phrase is what lays at the heart of tikkun o/am, the Jewish belief that it is everyone's duty to repair the world. Through this project, I hope to address the ramifications of social injustice by teaching students about global citizenship through the lens of tikkun olam.
