A Complete Catalog of a Japanese Basket Collection

<p>The purpose of this project is to create a plan to conduct a complete inventory of a collection of Japanese baskets and other woven objects within the Phoebe A. Hearst Museum of Anthropology. This inventory project will therefore provide the museum with a more thorough research tool of other cultures for students and scholars. Through scholarly texts from the Smithsonian, AAM, and curators or other museum professionals discussing registration methods, proper collections care, and museum standards, I will be able to conduct a full and accurate inventory of one collection within the museum, which will in turn lead to accurate inventories of other collections that the museum houses. Learning how to properly handle and store different types of objects will help to preserve the Japanese woven objects for future students or scholars to study. And understanding registration methods and museum standards will lead me to gather all of the necessary information when cataloging the objects. I will be able to thoroughly update the collections database that students and scholars will use when researching this culture.</p>
