El segundo sistema demuestra una red de interconexión acusto-óptica. This thesis describes di®erent approaches to implement optical interconnects and remote image recognition systems. The common goal in all these systems is to de- monstrate the ability of Optics to perform switching and computing tasks, traditio- nally carried out by their Electronics counterparts. The ¯rst set of arrangements involve Fourier-type Computer Generated Holograms and di®erent kinds of Liquid- Crystal Spatial Light Modulators, to create ¯xed and dynamic spot array generators for optical interconnects purposes. The second system demonstrates an acousto-optic crossbar switching network. The 12 £ 12 crossbar switch is supported by a complete 1.2 Gb/s ¯ber-optic switching testbed with integral computer control from a single la- boratory PC. The last system describes a ¯ber-based image transmission architecture with neural recognition.
