LA REPRESENTACIÓN DE PERSONAJES AUTISTAS EN LOS FANFICTIONS DE THE OWL HOUSE

Los personajes autistas en las series y películas actuales no son una representación realista del autismo. Debido a esto, la gente autista busca verse reflejada en medios alternativos, como el fanfiction. Por ello, el objetivo principal de esta investigación es analizar la representación de personajes autistas en fanfictions. Se utilizó la técnica de análisis de contenido en 14 fanfics de The Owl House en la plataforma de Archive of Our Own. Las categorías de análisis son la representación del autismo, el fanfiction como espacio alternativo de representación y la construcción de personajes. Los resultados muestran que los fanfics analizados incluyen representaciones realistas del autismo porque la mayoría de sus autores son personas autistas y obtienen inspiración de sus experiencias. Las representaciones realistas del autismo son necesarias para entender la experiencia autista en la ficción y empatizar con las personas autistas en la vida real.Autistic characters in current TV series and films are not a realistic representation of autism. Thus, autistic people seek to see themselves reflected in alternative media, such as fanfiction. Hence, the main objective of this research is to analyze the representation of autistic characters in fanfiction. The technique of content analysis was used in 14 fanfictions of The Owl House on the Archive of Our Own platform. The categories of analysis are the representation of autism, fanfiction as an alternative space of representation and character development. The results show that the analyzed fanfictions include realistic representations of autism as most of their authors are autistic people and draw inspiration from their experiences. Realistic representations of autism are necessary to understand the autistic experience in fiction and to empathize with autistic people in real life.
