Super Heavy Load Pavement Analysis PaCKage (SuperPACK): Verification and Modification
Abstract
dc:description.abstractSuper Heavy Load Pavement Analysis PaCKage (SuperPACK(TM)) is an analysis tool that has been under development by the Pavement Engineering and Science (PES) Program. This analysis tool is intended to be the culmination of the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) study, Analysis Procedures for Evaluating Superheavy Load Movement on Flexible Pavements. SuperPACK(TM) implements the different procedures, and methods developed by the FHWA study to analyze the move of Superheavy Loads (SHLs) on flexible pavements. The work presented in this research aimed to verify, modify, and document the work performed to develop SuperPACK(TM). All back-end calculations, modifications, and assumptions utilized have been clearly presented for all the different procedures implemented in SuperPACK(TM). In addition, a clear methodology which utilizes SuperPACK(TM) to generate a classification system for the assessment of SHL movements on pavements has been proposed. The proposed methodology allows the determination of the Equivalent Reference Vehicle, and the highway classification table from which the FOS against different modes of failure could be directly obtained for a given SHL, and pavement structure.
