Analysis of Aerosol Optical Depth for South Korea

Abstract

dc:description.abstract

A geographical area that has had recent interest with respect to its air quality is the country of South Korea because of the recent decrease in air quality in the last decade. To this end, both the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) in the United States and the National Institute of Environmental Research (NIER) in South Korea have led field studies to investigate the air pollution of the country to find a way to mitigate air pollution levels. This research analyzes aerosol optical depth (AOD), a measurement of aerosols present in the atmosphere, for South Korea, taking special interests in urban factors and topography. Through analyses using Matlab, a correlation between the AOD, urban factors, and topography was determined.
