Design of a Transforming MTB Helmet

When bicycling offroad, terrain can vary dramatically from moment to moment. As a result, experienced riders often find themselves preferring the comfort of a trail helmet in certain conditions, and the safety of a full-face mountain bike helmet in others. Presently, in order to resolve this issue, riders are forced to choose between bringing two helmets or using currently-existing "transforming" products with a removable chin guard. Both of these current approaches require riders to come to a full stop and spend a substantial amount of time in the transition process, reducing riding time, and posing a risk to riders should they find themselves very suddenly in need of the high safety option. Additionally, the existing solutions require extra storage space in which to stow parts or spares which are not in use, increasing the risk of losing, misplacing, or damaging removable parts.
