Alzheimer's Disease: An Introduction to The Disease, its Mechanisms, and a Clinical Case Study
Abstract
dc:description.abstractAlzheimer's disease is the leading cause of dementia, and it has a high prevalence in western societies. As people are living longer, dementia has become a growing concern particularly for the elderly population. More research is being conducted to better understand Alzheimer's in an effort to cure it. Presently, there is no known cure for the disease, and no consistently effective treatments that halts the progression of the disease. Clinical features, pathophysiology, and epidemiology are explored along with potential causes, methods of diagnosis, and current treatments. New research containing potential future directions for the development of treatments will also be discussed.
