Recently, in increase in obesity in America has prompted the use of these methods in several studies on effective weight loss strategies. The purpose of this study is to extend that research to young children by testing the effectiveness of such methods as an early intervention to increase physical activity. A multi-element design was used to compare the effectiveness of self-monitoring of steps, as measured by a pedometer, with self-monitoring and comparative graphic feedback.
