Currently, the effects of aging on isotonic endurance of the swallow musculature is not well understood. The current study aimed to determine the effect of a meal on lingual isotonic endurance in two age groups. An additional aim was to determine the effect of sex and age on isotonic lingual endurance. Sixty healthy participants were recruited for the study, and were divided into two groups: younger adults (18-35 years) and older adults (65+ years). Participants completed pre-meal strength and isotonic endurance tasks, a meal task, and post-meal strength and isotonic endurance tasks. A mixed-effects model determined statistical significance. No significance was found for the influence on meal consumption on isotonic lingual endurance. No age or sex effects were found.
