My first chapter presents Kechiche's use of narrative structure in the film in order to illustrate Adèle's alternation between active and passive drives characteristic of young girls before Freudian repression. In my next chapter, I discuss the joint and multiple gazes presented in Blue through Bracha Ettinger's conception of the matrixial and John Berger's Ways of Seeing.
