Abstract
dc:description.abstractA web based Java program has been developed to solve 2-D transient or steady state heat transfer problems. The numerical solver is based on the finite element method. The program is designed to work with both triangle and quadrilateral elements. In this thesis the development of the finite element method, using the Galerkin weighted residuals method, is reviewed and the technique applied to the advection-diffusion equation for the transport of temperature. The Java code and graphical interface used to implement the solver for use on the Internet is discussed.
