Determination of the thermoneutral zone in young males and females

To determine the thermoneutral zone (TNZ) in young men and women, 14 women and 6 men between the ages of 18 and 37 were studied. Rectal temperature, skin temperature (seven sites), heart rate, blood pressure, VO2 (ml/kg/min), and a perceived comfort index were measured while resting for 2 hours in an environmental room. Subjects were exposed to 7 different air temperatures ranging from 15 to 36{dollar}\sp\circ{dollar}C. Values for the measurements were observed at each temperature. The estimated thermoneutral zone (TNZ) for the males in this study ranged between approximately 27 and 30{dollar}\sp\circ{dollar}C and for the females between 26 and 31.5{dollar}\sp\circ{dollar}C.
