A sample of 306 geriatric nurses who were members of the American Nurse's Association responded to a 4-page, mailed questionnaire (return rate 37%). The questionnaire developed consisted of four parts: Sociodemographic data, and three semantic differential scales assessing, Attitudes toward geriatric nursing, Attitudes toward the work environment, and Attitudes toward the administrator. Descriptive statistics were compiled for sociodemographic variables; Results of the regression analyses demonstrated that job satisfaction, leadership style, and years as a geriatric nurse accounted for significant variance in the semantic differential scales. The two semantic differentials of attitude toward geriatric nursing and attitude toward the administrator were found to be reliable instruments.
