This is All It Is for treble voice and fixed media was born of the composer’s mission to combine her most admired genres of music. All five songs feature homages toward both pop music and electroacoustic traditions, however, the odd-numbered movements more closely reflect modern contemporary classical art music, while the even-numbered works explore popular music sounds crafted for the concert hall. The subject matter is widely light and only hints toward more serious concepts. Topics include maladaptive daydreaming, self comfort, and encouraging oneself to move forward and be their true self despite trying times. The singer is asked to imitate sounds, such as crying or laughing, or characters, such as a storybook fairytale villain. The heaviest influence for the work is the composer’s love of kpop, or Korean pop music, which she desires to bring respect and attention to in modern music studies. The vocal range of the work is most closely aligned with mezzo-soprano.
