The Wanderer in the Depths of Dreams for Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Two Percussionists, Piano, Classical Guitar, Violin, Cello, and Live Electronics

This piece is the final piece of music composed using my favorite techniques and styles before entering my doctorate program. For me, it marks both a watershed of my professional development and a brand-new start. Drawing from fourteen years in composition studies, I will continue to explore possibilities in artistic creation and the diversity of my own musical language. Owing to the collection of sounds from the natural world, including rain, wind, and people, electronic samples were indispensable for completing the work. As a result, the entire electronic part is endowed with a high degree of complexity that cannot be imitated or copied by acoustic instruments. What I pay particular attention to during the composition process is the combination of electronic samples and traditional musical instruments, such that the recording samples serve as the background and foreshadow the development of the acoustic instruments, whereas the instrumental parts are constituted by conventional composition techniques and methods. Both parts act side by side, and I believe that only by such combination can the expected depth of feeling that I experienced in my dreams be vividly and incisively expressed.
