Abstract
dc:description.abstractThis collection of poems works through a personal narrative of trauma, weaving its way in and out of discussions about religious identity in the South as well as sexuality, and explores how trauma often infiltrates all aspects of a victim’s life. Scattered throughout are also poems that deal with climate change and mass extinction, an homage to the trauma that we inflict upon the world and its far-reaching consequences. “Strangelove ocean” is a scientific term used to refer to the post-Permian extinction landscape—a desolate ocean in which over 95% of marine species perished. The only species that survived lurked deep under the decay and debris, evolving and resurfacing hundreds of millions of years later. These poems illustrate a resilient evolution, a resurfacing from a much smaller, but still significant, Strangelove ocean.
