This book explores the struggles of one woman living in London during an outbreak of the bubonic plague. Charles, as she has named herself, has to not only maintain her masculine guise, but also has to fight to cure the plague, deal with betrayal, and grapple the loneliness that surrounds her life as a woman in a man’s world.
